Água no Feijão is a group of friends and musicians based in Rio de Janeiro, who have come from many different musical backgrounds to play choro music together. The group formed in March 2007 at Escola Portátil, the all-Saturday choro school at UniRio, and continue to rehearse, perform, and record together. The current 6 members released their debut CD, Roda no Rio (2008) to good reviews both in Brazil and the US. It has been called “delightful,” “an excellent recording,” “the perfect party CD,” and “played with a great swing!”. You can hear tracks from the CD on Água’s MySpace: myspace.com/aguanofeijao

Choro music began in Rio over a century ago, and the traditional roda da choro– choro jam session– continues today as part of the city’s vibrant music scene. Through the years choro has continued to change and grow, absorbing new influences while remaining true to its roots. The musicians of Água no Feijão bring other styles to the mix as well– samba, salsa, jazz, classical — infusing their CD with an unmistakable sense of fun. The group’s name comes from an old Brazilian expression of hospitality: if unexpected guests arrive, just add more water to the beans. So welcome to our “Roda in Rio”!

Então bem-vindos à nossa “Roda no Rio”!
